▪️As time goes by, we gradually discover things that make progress in our lives. One of each is the modern technology, where the invention of various types of electronic gadgets was made and discovered. Because of the discovery of modern technology, social media was also discovered.

▪️Social media is everywhere these days: we see companies employing social media advertising in tv, radio, billboards, websites, and even on our cellphones. Social media is an internet form of communication. Social media platforms allow users to have conversations, share information and create content. There are many forms of social media, including blogs and micro-blogs. Millions of people around the world use social media to share information and make connections.

🤔 : What is social media used for?
▪️Social media allows individuals to keep in touch with friends and extended family. Some people will use various social media applications to network and find career opportunities, connect with people across the globe with like-minded interests, and share their own thoughts, feelings, and insights online. Social Media plays a crucial role in connecting people and developing relationships, not only with key influencers and journalists covering your company’s sector, but also provides a great opportunity to establish customer service by gathering input, answering questions and listening to their feedback.

🤔 : Do we need social media?
▪️There are several reasons why people make use of social media and how it is useful. It helps in making the users feel involved. They feel that they are able to participate in things that are happening around the world. It helps the users in raising their voice against an unjust act or issue.

Also, social media provides social work educators a way to connect with colleagues from around the world. Through the use of Twitter or a specialized community on Facebook, educators can share information and resources in real-time. In addition, they can collaborate on research projects, presentations and even publications. Social media and the Internet, in general, have an immense effect on social work. It enables communication between people from different corners of the world and makes access to information fast and easy. Social workers protect children and adults with support needs from harm. From helping keep a family under pressure together to supporting someone with mental health problems, often emotional and very rewarding career.

🤔 : How social media helps social workers?
▪️Social media has significantly improved the communication experience between social workers and their clients. Social networks such as Facebook and WhatsApp make it easier, cheaper and faster for social workers to get in touch with clients without necessarily spending money on transport. In addition to this, most social workers have social media pages where interested clients can contact them and book appointments without breaking a sweat.

Social Media also helps social workers to attract more clients by opening social media pages and regularly updating content. As it were, there are numerous resources available to social workers who want to establish and grow their online presence such as using video to increase engagement on social media. On their part, clients can search for available social workers and be able to receive services such as spiritual, psychiatrist and anxiety counseling online even without revealing their identities.

Aside from how helpful social media to social workers is, also through getting socialized, and having a communication with a family or friend who is far from you, social media also plays a important role through informing people.

How helpful are the media when there are natural disasters?
▪️ Social media are often used by emergency management organizations to coordinate and send out notifications of upcoming training events and exercises. Notifications can also be sent to mobilize first responders to respond to an incident. Media throughout the world plays a vital role in educating the public about disasters; warning of hazards; gathering and transmitting information about affected areas; alerting government officials, relief organisations and the public to specific needs and facilitates discussion about disaster preparedness and response .

▪️The most useful advantage of social media in an emergency response effort are: Being able to communicate directly with constituents, the ability to build situational awareness, and The speed in which information can be delivered directly to the public. When used during an emergency, social media can help expand the reach of your message due to social sharing and the vast number of citizens who actively utilize the platforms. It can serve as an open communication channel for residents to respond back, ask questions, and provide updates via internet, (if available), or SMS updates. It drives awareness to those outside the affected areas, generating volunteers and/or donors.

▪️Just like what happen last November 12, 2020 where typhoon Ulysses ravaged the northern and central parts of Luzon. The strong winds, lightnings and thunders brought by Ulysses caused many damages in every province that were affected. Especially the region 2, where the province of Cagayan and Isabela almost sink. It was a calm night before the typhoon came, the quiet place as the wind blows, while all people are in deep sleep, it was almost morning when it begans, there was a blackout in every province who were affected. The people didn’t expect it that it was a strong typhoon. People screams for help as the landslides and floods began, the unexpected nightmare they didn’t expect to encounter. Cagayan and Isabela people, were in dire of help because the Magat Dam in cagayan was damaged because it could not withstand the force of the current and rising water.
▪️And by that, people used social media to ask for help to everyone especially to the authorities and to those who are rescue guards. People used hash tags like #CagayanNeedsHelp #IsabelaNeedsHelp #RescuePH and made it a trending in every social networks, like facebook, twitter and instagram. By making it trending, many people helped and give some small donations and relief goods for the people who were affected. The rescue guards rescued the people who got stuck and don’t have any ways to escape and survive but to stay in their roofs. Gladly they got saved, and when the typhoon ended people started to rise again. By the help of volunteers and donations, the people of cagayan and isabela rised.

▪️Social media is not that bad. It is a truly amazing and useful tool for humans. It may have a disadvantages but it also have advantages. You see, if it will use for good things, it can be helpful.
